Jalandhar: In a significant breakthrough against narcotics trafficking, Punjab’s Counter-Intelligence unit in Patiala has arrested a suspected drug courier and seized 4.721 kilograms of heroin during an intelligence-led operation in Jalandhar.
The accused, identified as Vansh Kumar, a resident of Dalam in Batala, was taken into custody based on actionable intelligence. According to officials, preliminary investigations have linked Vansh to Amrit Dalam — a Dubai-based handler originally from Batala — who is believed to be a close associate of notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, currently lodged in jail.
An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar, and further investigation is ongoing to trace the full extent of the drug network. Authorities are focused on identifying both the source and the intended recipients of the consignment, along with uncovering the backward and forward linkages of the syndicate.
The Punjab Police, in a statement, reiterated its firm commitment to combating organised drug trafficking operations in the state. Officials confirmed that more arrests and seizures are likely as the probe progresses.
This latest operation marks another step in the state’s ongoing campaign to dismantle criminal networks operating from both domestic and international locations.
