Doda (Jammu & Kashmir): A disturbing discovery was made at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Doda, where the body of a newborn female was found in the bathroom of the hospital’s emergency ward, prompting an immediate police investigation.
Authorities confirmed that the infant, estimated to be around five to six months old, was found on September 28 during routine sanitation and security checks inside the facility. The hospital administration alerted local law enforcement as soon as the body was located.
Dr. Tanveer Ahmed, Medical Superintendent of GMC Doda, stated that hospital staff were conducting regular maintenance when the body was found. “We informed the police immediately. The body was sent for post-mortem and DNA samples were taken for forensic analysis,” he said.
The hospital’s CCTV footage is currently under review to assist investigators in tracing potential suspects or identifying who may have left the infant. Additional security and monitoring protocols are also being examined as part of the case.
The Police Post at District Hospital Doda registered a case under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with the concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body. A team including the investigating officer, members of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), and a crime scene photographer visited the location and carried out necessary legal and scientific procedures.
The body has been taken into custody for medico-legal examination. Officials say the investigation is in its early stages and further action will be taken based on the DNA results and other forensic evidence.
Police have appealed to the public for any information related to the case, while assuring that all legal steps are being followed to bring clarity and justice in this tragic matter.
