Guwahati: In a significant development in the investigation into singer Zubeen Garg’s death, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the Centre will invoke the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore to facilitate cross-border cooperation in the case.

The move aims to deepen the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Garg’s demise in Singapore on September 19.

As of now, a number of individuals, including event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma, and members of the Singapore Assam Association, have received notices to appear before the SIT.

Meanwhile, over 55 FIRs have been filed in Assam against persons suspected to have links to the incident.

As the MLAT activation opens the door to judicial and investigative collaboration, Assam’s government and law enforcement agencies vow to push for maximum transparency and ensure that justice is served in Garg’s case.
