Police Registers FIR for Feeding Pigeons in Mahim, Bombay High Court Orders

Encounter News, Mumbai: Mumbai Police has registered a case under sections of the Indian Judicial Code against an unidentified person who fed pigeons. This has been done in view of the increasing population of pigeons in Mumbai and the health problems associated with it.

The incident is from Mahim area. Here a person was seen feeding pigeons from his car on LG Road.

The person could not be identified as the number plate of the car was not clearly visible. The police have registered a case against the person under sections 270 and 223 of the Indian Judicial Code. Feeding pigeons in public is an offense under BNS. The Bombay High Court has banned it. The Bombay High Court had also issued an order in this regard.

What did the Bombay High Court say in the order?

In the order issued by the Bombay High Court, it was said that strict action should be taken against those who feed pigeons at public and heritage sites. FIR should also be registered if needed. Mumbai Police has taken this action after this order of Bombay High Court. Under the sections under which the police has registered this case, there can be a fine of up to Rs 2,500 or a jail sentence of 6 months.

51 pigeon houses identified

At the same time, BMC and police together inspected the Dadar pigeon house and decided that officers will be deployed in three shifts for monitoring. 51 pigeon houses present in Mumbai have been identified. Now they will be monitored. The joint team of BMC and police will now keep a constant watch through patrolling and CCTV, so that such incidents can be prevented in future.
