New Delhi: Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra, a prominent figure in Delhi’s political landscape for decades, passed away at the age of 94 on Tuesday morning at his residence in the national capital, the Delhi BJP confirmed.
Malhotra, who was the first-ever president of the BJP’s Delhi unit, was deeply respected across party lines for his political acumen, unwavering commitment to public service, and contributions to shaping the party in its formative years.
A Stalwart of Delhi Politics
Described as a pillar of Delhi’s political history, Malhotra held numerous key roles over the course of his long career. Apart from being a senior BJP figure, he also served in various parliamentary and administrative positions, earning the trust of both leadership and grassroots workers.
The Delhi BJP, in its statement, noted that Malhotra’s leadership laid the groundwork for the party’s expansion in the capital during its early days.
A Coincidental Moment in Party History
His demise comes just a day after the Delhi BJP formally received a permanent headquarters at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, a move that symbolized the party’s continued growth in the capital. The new office was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday.
Party workers and leaders saw a sense of poetic timing in the sequence of events, as Malhotra had played an instrumental role in shaping the BJP’s early infrastructure and strategy in Delhi.
