Ferozepur: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Ferozepur on Friday seized 4.25 kg of heroin and arrested two alleged traffickers during a late-night operation as part of Punjab’s ongoing “war on drugs.”

The arrested men have been identified as Akashideep Singh, alias Akash, from Mahalla Ghod, and Manpreet Singh, alias Kalu, from Mansoordeva, both in Zira. The operation, conducted under the supervision of Special DGP and ADGP NTF Punjab, with AIG Sohan Lal Soni heading the team, led to the discovery of the heroin hidden in a cupboard at Manpreet Singh’s residence.

ANTF officials suspect the narcotics were smuggled from Pakistan via border areas during recent flood-like conditions. Preliminary questioning revealed that the duo had been quietly trafficking drugs for nearly 18 months, receiving consignments from Pakistani contacts and distributing them across Punjab. A third associate escaped during the raid, and efforts are underway to apprehend him. Authorities believe the network may have moved larger quantities than the seized 4.25 kg.

The swift action was credited to the coordinated efforts of ANTF field units, technical surveillance teams, and local police. Sub-Inspector Navdeep Singh is leading the investigation. Both accused have been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and the court has been approached for their remand to expand the probe.

Senior officials reiterated Punjab’s commitment to eliminating drug trafficking and urged the public to provide information to assist ongoing operations.
