Kolkata: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday seized gold valued at Rs 1.29 crore and detained a smuggler at the Tarali border outpost in the South Bengal frontier.

The operation took place on Friday at the Hakimpur checkpost under the Tarali outpost, where BSF personnel intercepted a man carrying 20 gold biscuits weighing a total of 1.1 kg. The seizure followed a tip-off regarding a potential smuggling attempt. During questioning, the individual admitted that the gold had been brought from across the India-Bangladesh border.

Authorities have launched an investigation to identify the wider network behind the smuggling operation. The seized gold and the arrested man will be handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
