New Delhi — India on Thursday successfully carried out the test launch of the Agni-Prime intermediate-range ballistic missile from a specially designed rail-based mobile launcher. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted the test in collaboration with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC).

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the event as a “first-of-its-kind” achievement, underlining the technological innovation behind the canisterised system capable of launching from an on-the-move rail platform.

The Agni-Prime missile, designed with a strike range of up to 2,000 kilometres, strengthens India’s strategic capabilities. Singh said the successful test has placed India among a select group of nations that have developed such advanced launch technology.

“Congratulations to DRDO, Strategic Forces Command and the Armed Forces on the successful test of the intermediate-range Agni-Prime missile,” the minister said in his message.
