Karnataka HC Dismisses Elon Musk’s X Corp Challenge to Government Sahyog Portal Mandate

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a petition filed by Elon Musk-led X Corp, operator of the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), challenging the Union government’s directive requiring social media intermediaries to register with the central Sahyog portal.

X Corp had questioned the very concept of the Sahyog portal, arguing that it infringes on free speech and other rights. The government, however, developed the portal to automate the process of sending notices under the IT Act to intermediaries, enabling prompt removal or blocking of unlawful content, data, or communication links.

The Sahyog platform is designed to consolidate all authorised agencies and intermediaries in one place, allowing swift action against illegal online information.

The court’s detailed judgment outlining the reasons for rejecting X Corp’s challenge is expected to be released later.
