Mohali: The Punjabi music fraternity is mourning the loss of one of its most celebrated composers, Charanjit Ahuja, who breathed his last on Sunday evening at his Mohali home. The 74-year-old veteran had been fighting throat cancer for several years and was under treatment at PGI Chandigarh.

Known for shaping the sound of modern Punjabi music, Ahuja’s compositions have been instrumental in defining the careers of many singers and continue to resonate across generations. His passing has left a deep void in the industry, with fans and artists alike expressing shock and grief.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann shared a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter), calling Ahuja’s death an “irreparable loss” to the state’s cultural heritage. “His timeless music will forever remain in the hearts of Punjabis. My sympathies are with his son Sachin Ahuja, his family, and admirers,” Mann wrote.

Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh also paid tribute, remembering Ahuja as a guiding force behind Punjabi melodies that continue to inspire artists today. “Legends never die. Charanjit Ahuja ji’s contribution to music will always stay alive through his unforgettable tunes,” he shared with fans.

Ahuja, fondly regarded as the backbone of Punjabi compositions for decades, leaves behind a rich musical legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. His demise marks the end of an era, but his songs will ensure that his presence is eternally felt.
