Srinagar: During a cleanliness drive at Dal Lake on Saturday, officials from the Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) discovered the remains of a shell that reportedly exploded during Operation Sindoor in May, authorities said. The remains were taken to a nearby police station for further examination and necessary action, PTI reported.

On May 10, a missile-like object landed in Dal Lake, a major tourist attraction in Srinagar, following a series of loud explosions across the city. Smoke was seen rising from the water when the object landed, officials had said. On the same day, another suspected object was recovered from Lasjan, located on the outskirts of the city, amid multiple blasts heard in Srinagar.

Operation Sindoor was India’s military response to Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives. Launched on May 7, the operation targeted nine terror infrastructures belonging to groups including Jaish-e-Mohammad, Hizbul Mujahideen, and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Reports indicate that over 100 terrorists were killed during the operation.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday lauded the precision strikes carried out during Operation Sindoor, noting that the military action demonstrated India’s strength and resolve to its adversaries. Following the strikes, reports suggest that terrorist groups in Pakistan are relocating to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from PoK and other areas.
