Hoshiarpur: A 17-year-old Class 12 student was allegedly killed by her father with a sword in Dhut Kalan village of Haryana police station area in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, police said. The victim was identified as Inderpreet Kaur.
According to the initial information, the incident came to light after authorities were alerted, following which police from the Haryana police station reached the spot and launched an investigation.
The police took custody of the girl’s body and sent it for a post-mortem examination to establish further details surrounding her death.
Police Suspect Family-Related Distress
Rural Deputy Superintendent of Police Narinder Singh said the preliminary investigation indicated that the accused father had repeatedly expressed distress over having only one daughter.
Police are investigating whether this was linked to the alleged killing. However, the precise circumstances and motive behind the incident remain under investigation.
The accused reportedly fled the scene before police arrived. A search has been launched to trace and arrest him.
Police said further action would follow as the investigation progresses. The allegations against the accused have not yet been established in court.
