AISA President Neha Bora Alleges Threats By Crowd Outside Police Station, Questions Police Inaction

New Delhi: AISA president and activist Neha Bora has alleged that a crowd of 50 to 60 people gathered outside a police station on Saturday, raised slogans against her and threatened her as she approached the premises for a court hearing. She has accused the police of failing to intervene and questioned the difference in how authorities respond to such gatherings and peaceful demonstrations against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

In a video statement shared on social media, Bora said she was scheduled to appear before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court on October 24. As she approached the police station, she allegedly noticed a large crowd gathered around 100 metres from the premises.

Neha Bora Alleges Threats And Slogans Outside Police Station

Bora claimed that people in the crowd were using loudspeakers to issue threats against her and chanting slogans targeting her.

“As I was approaching the police station, I realised from about 100 metres away that 50 to 60 goons were standing outside. They were loudly announcing over speakers that if Neha Bora comes here today, let us see who can save her,” she said in the video.

She further alleged that the crowd raised slogans of “Neha Bora Murdabad” and that the police did not take steps to disperse those assembled outside the station.

The allegations have not been independently verified based on the information available in her statement. No response from the police was included in the material provided.

Activist Questions Police Response To SIR Protests

Bora questioned why the alleged gathering outside a police station was not treated as a breach of peace, while demonstrations demanding an inquiry against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and a halt to the SIR exercise had faced police action, according to her account.

“We want to ask, what exactly constitutes a breach of peace? A crowd of 50 to 60 goons gathers outside a police station, and the police take no steps to remove or disperse them. That is not considered a breach of peace. But when ordinary people raise slogans on the streets demanding an inquiry against Gyanesh Kumar and a halt to the SIR, that is considered a breach of peace,” she alleged.

Her remarks drew a comparison between the police response she described and the restrictions she said had been imposed on people protesting against the electoral roll revision exercise.

Neha Bora Says Crowd Obstructed Access To Police Station

Bora also alleged that the gathering obstructed access to the police station, making it difficult for people attending legal proceedings to enter the premises. She specifically referred to women lawyers who, she claimed, were unable to get through the crowd.

“Right wing goons have the freedom to block roads and prevent ordinary citizens, who are going to follow the proceedings under the rule of law, from entering,” she said.

She accused the authorities of applying different standards to gatherings and demonstrations, arguing that people seeking to attend legal proceedings should not be prevented from accessing the premises.

Bora concluded by questioning whether allowing the alleged gathering to continue could be considered a measure to maintain peace, while peaceful and democratic protests were treated as a breach of peace.
