Chandigarh: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Punjab on Tuesday, October 20, and meet the families of three people reportedly killed in separate incidents after raising concerns about drugs. The one-day tour will cover Mansa, Sangrur and Gurdaspur districts, according to the schedule released by the Union Home Ministry.
The visit comes amid public demands for accountability in cases involving people who had spoken out against alleged drug-related activities. Shah is scheduled to meet the families and offer condolences during the three stops.
What Is Amit Shah’s Punjab Visit Schedule?
Shah will begin his visit in Mansa, where he is scheduled to arrive at Ward No. 21 on Water Works Road at noon on October 20. He will meet the family of Parvinder Singh Jhota, who was known for raising concerns about drugs and was killed on October 13.
The Home Minister will then travel to Sangrur district. According to the published schedule, he is expected to reach Hardam Patti in Turbanjara village at 1:15 pm to meet the family of another victim.
The final stop is scheduled for Mari Panwan village in the Sri Hargobindpur area near Batala, in Gurdaspur district. Shah is expected to arrive there at 3:15 pm to meet the third victim’s family and offer condolences.
The schedule identifies the locations and timings of the planned meetings. Further details about the two other victims were not included in the information released with the programme.
Why Is Parvinder Singh Jhota’s Case Drawing Attention?
Jhota’s killing in Mansa has prompted protests and calls for a thorough investigation. He had reportedly confronted a medical store owner over alleged illegal drug sales before he was shot dead during a confrontation on October 13.
The case has become a focus of public anger, with demonstrators demanding justice for Jhota’s family and accountability over the circumstances of his death. Protests have also received support from figures associated with Punjab’s music industry.
Shah’s planned meeting with Jhota’s family comes against this backdrop of demands for action on drug-related concerns and justice in the case. The visit will also include meetings with the families of two other victims in separate incidents.
What Security Arrangements Are Being Made?
Local authorities and police are making security arrangements ahead of the Home Minister’s visit. The tour involves stops across three districts, requiring coordination for the scheduled movements and meetings.
The October 20 programme is planned as a one-day visit, with the meetings beginning in Mansa around noon and concluding with the scheduled stop in Gurdaspur district at 3:15 pm.
Any changes to the timings or itinerary would depend on official updates from the authorities.
