Amritsar: Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan has postponed his scheduled October 25 performance in Amritsar amid ongoing protests demanding justice for anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, who was shot dead in Mansa on October 13. The decision comes as demonstrations over Jhota’s killing continue to draw support from sections of Punjab’s public and Punjabi music industry.
According to Babushahi Network, Maan’s manager confirmed the postponement. The concert was scheduled to take place at Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology in Amritsar, with the programme due to begin at 6:30 pm. A revised date for the performance has not yet been announced.
Why Has Gurdas Maan Postponed His Amritsar Concert?
The postponement comes against the backdrop of protests over Jhota’s killing and demands for accountability. Demonstrators have called for justice for his family and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Jhota was killed on October 13 during a confrontation with medical store owner Ashwani Kumar in Mansa. According to police, Jhota was livestreaming the confrontation when the incident occurred. He had previously confronted the same shop owner over alleged illegal drug sales.
The allegations concerning illegal drug sales and the circumstances of the confrontation remain part of the wider issue surrounding the case. Jhota’s killing has intensified public anger, with protesters seeking action and answers from the authorities.
How Have Protests Over Jhota’s Murder Spread Across Punjab?
The killing prompted demonstrations in several parts of Punjab, with organisations demanding justice for Jhota and a comprehensive investigation. A statewide bandh was observed on October 15 following a call by groups protesting the killing.
The agitation has also received support from figures associated with the Punjabi music industry. Singers Babbu Maan and Ranjit Bawa visited the protest site, expressing solidarity with the campaign surrounding Jhota’s death.
Balkaur Singh, the father of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, also postponed his planned Canada tour to join the demonstrations, according to the report.
These developments have brought additional public attention to the protests, which centre on the demand for accountability in Jhota’s killing.
When Will Gurdas Maan’s Amritsar Show Take Place?
The concert was originally scheduled for October 25 at Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology in Amritsar. However, following the postponement, organisers have not announced a new date.
Details regarding rescheduling and any further changes to the event have not been made public. The postponement comes as demands for justice for Jhota and a thorough probe into his killing continue to feature prominently in Punjab’s public discourse.
