NEW DELHI: Customs officials stationed at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi intercepted a flyer arriving from Bangkok and confiscated approximately 13.3 kilograms of suspected high-grade hydroponic weed.
The enforcement action was executed on October 4 after surveillance personnel acted upon actionable intelligence regarding an inbound international passenger suspected of smuggling illicit contraband. Upon arrival, the passenger was singled out and intercepted by customs officers for detailed screening and luggage examination.
During the thorough physical search of the passenger’s baggage, authorities uncovered 10 concealed packets containing a green leafy substance suspected to be premium hydroponic marijuana. Customs officials promptly seized the contraband under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and the Customs Act, 1962.
The passenger was taken into custody on the spot and subsequently produced before a competent court in the national capital, which remanded the accused to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway to identify the wider supply chain and determine the intended recipients of the seized narcotics.
