AMRITSAR: In a coordinated operation based on specific inputs provided by Military Intelligence (MI), the Punjab Police recovered an assault rifle concealed in an open plot situated near Loharka Road in Amritsar. A formal first information report (FIR) has been registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act at the Kamboh police station.
According to official police records, an operational team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sarwan Singh was conducting routine patrolling and area surveillance in Mirakot Khurd on Sunday, October 11, when Military Intelligence personnel alerted them to suspicious activity. The intelligence input indicated that lethal weapons or ammunition might be concealed in an empty plot located in the vicinity of Cambridge School on Loharka Road.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a combined team of local police and intelligence personnel cordoned off the designated site and launched an intensive search operation across the plot. During the search, officers located a yellow-coloured envelope lying concealed on the premises.
A close inspection of the packet revealed an assault rifle bearing the marking “CAL 223 BORE S/A”. Official documentation confirmed that neither a magazine nor an attached cleaning rod was recovered alongside the weapon. The rifle was taken into official custody following standard recovery protocols, including videographic documentation of the entire seizure process.
The Kamboh police have registered a case against unidentified suspects under Sections 25(8), 54, and 59 of the Arms Act. Preliminary police records have not yet established who hid the weapon at the location or the intended purpose behind stashing it, with further investigation underway to trace the supply link and apprehend the individuals involved.
