CHANDIGARH — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday launched a sharp attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing the central government of weaponizing federal investigative agencies to target his administration ahead of upcoming elections.
The Chief Minister’s statement followed searches conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation at his camp office in Chandigarh and locations associated with his Officer on Special Duty, Rajbir Singh Ghuman.

Taking to social media platform X, Mann stated that the BJP has begun its campaign playbook by deploying the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate to tarnish the Punjab government’s image and defame his leadership out of panic over the public support his party continues to receive.
The investigative action stems from directives issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which ordered a probe into allegations of corruption, extortion, and irregularities concerning land-use permissions, housing society clearances, and administrative transfers involving state officials. In response, the Punjab government has approached the Supreme Court to challenge the High Court order transferring the inquiry to the federal agency.
