Patiala: Patiala Police on Saturday arrested a Haryana resident in connection with the late-night student unrest and vandalism that broke out on the Chitkara University campus in Rajpura last month. The accused, identified as Parth Mehta, a resident of Fatehabad, was apprehended following an investigation into digital footprints used to orchestrate the campus disturbance during the intervening night of September 25 and 26.
According to a Patiala Police spokesperson, the arrest follows a First Information Report formally registered at the Banur police station immediately after the incident. Investigators had previously arrested two other suspects, Himanshu of Nangal and Aryan of Ambala, before technical evidence linked Mehta to the coordination of the protest.
Police officials stated that Mehta actively disseminated deceptive, unverified posts across multiple social media networks to agitate students, encourage property destruction, and obstruct law enforcement officers from executing their official duties. With this latest apprehension, the total number of arrests linked to the case has risen to three under relevant statutory penal provisions.
The district police administration reiterated that the investigation remains active to trace additional instigators who coordinated digital disinformation or took part in physical vandalism on campus. Authorities added that further arrests are expected as digital forensic assessments proceed, emphasising that strict legal action will follow against anyone attempting to destabilise public order and student safety.
