New Delhi: Indian security authorities have secured the deportation of alleged transnational narcotics kingpin Navpreet Singh from Turkiye following an extensive cross-border investigation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed the arrest and extradition on Saturday, characterising the operation as a landmark breakthrough in the federal campaign against international drug networks.
Operating out of Turkiye, Singh had acquired foreign citizenship under the fraudulent identity of Navab Virk to evade international law enforcement. Authorities established that he exploited this cover to orchestrate the movement of illicit shipments of heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan into the Indian domestic market.
Indian investigative agencies coordinated a multi-layered intelligence operation to unravel his false documentation, verify his true background, and negotiate his deportation with Turkish authorities. Shah commended the security personnel involved, noting that investigators successfully dismantled the suspect’s assumed identity to hold him accountable under Indian law.
Following his transfer back to India, Singh was placed in judicial custody in connection with multiple ongoing drug trafficking and criminal conspiracy cases. The Home Ministry reiterated that the operation aligns with the federal government’s broader mandate to systematically dismantle cross-border cartels and disrupt illicit supply pipelines by December 2029.
