Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party legislator Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal has called on the Special Investigation Team examining the high-profile Punjab illicit narcotics trade to conduct a direct, face-to-face interrogation between Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia and convicted drug smuggler Jagdish Singh Bhola. Dhaliwal made the statement in Amritsar following the SIT’s summons directing Majithia to appear for questioning on October 5.
Addressing media representatives, Dhaliwal emphasized that the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab administration remains steadfast in its campaign to eradicate the narcotics trade across the province. He stressed that regardless of political standing or influence, anyone found complicit in drug trafficking will face rigorous legal consequences. Highlighting that law enforcement authorities have already arrested thousands of individuals linked to the trade, the MLA maintained that the broader public widely attributes the initial surge of synthetic narcotics to the previous Akali Dal tenure, creating a strong public demand for strict accountability against those responsible for introducing the scourge.
Taking direct aim at the Union government, Dhaliwal criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah, asserting that federal leadership lacks the moral authority to lecture Punjab on narcotics when substantial illegal drug consignments continue to be seized in states like Gujarat. The legislator urged Shah to prioritize dismantling cross-border supply chains and interstate smuggling networks originating from regions such as Rajasthan and Gujarat rather than politicizing Punjab’s enforcement efforts. Reaffirming his confidence in the ongoing investigation, Dhaliwal declared that Majithia will face legitimate legal penalties, concluding that the AAP administration relies purely on evidence rather than pursuing fabricated charges against political opponents.
