Amritsar: In a major crackdown on cross-border organized crime, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled three illicit trafficking syndicates, arresting five suspects and seizing a substantial haul of narcotics and weapons. Law enforcement officials recovered 13 pistols, 22 live cartridges, and over 3.2 kilograms of heroin during targeted operations conducted across multiple jurisdictions within the border city.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav confirmed the breakthrough on Wednesday, stating that preliminary questioning revealed the accused were actively engaged in procuring and distributing illegal firearms alongside commercial quantities of narcotics. The recoveries were made during coordinated raids overseen by the D-Division and Chheharta police stations, leading to the registration of separate First Information Reports under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Arms Act.
Investigators have launched an extensive probe to map out the complete supply chain, focusing on both backward sourcing channels and forward distribution routes. Special attention is being directed toward identifying financial links and suspected overseas handlers who may be orchestrating consignments from abroad. The operation marks another critical step in Punjab Police’s ongoing state-wide campaign to disrupt illicit arms and drug conduits threatening regional security.
