PATIALA — A high-level Sikh religious delegation, including Sri Akal Takht Sahib Acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Tek Singh Dhanaula, and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, met with incarcerated Sikh prisoner Balwant Singh Rajoana at Patiala Central Jail on Tuesday. Following the meeting, the leadership affirmed that an 11-member committee will resume formal discussions with the Central Government to expedite a decisive resolution regarding his long-pending release.
Speaking to reporters after the prison visit, Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargajj stated that Rajoana remains in high spirits despite decades of imprisonment. He announced that the SGPC would extend full organizational support to the religious march scheduled for October 2, which will be led by the Panj Pyare and spearheaded by Bapu Gurcharan Singh, the foster father of Jagtar Singh Hawara, to advocate for the release of Sikh political prisoners across the country.
SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami strongly urged the Central Government to take immediate steps to accept Rajoana’s release petition, condemning the prolonged administrative delays as a grave injustice against the Sikh community. Dhami also provided an update on Rajoana’s health, noting that he recently underwent eye surgery and is scheduled for follow-up medical examinations, while reiterating that the Sikh leadership will continue its collective push to secure freedom for all detained political prisoners.
