New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced new guidelines for the design and printing of EVM ballot papers, aiming to make them more readable and voter-friendly.
The poll body said that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) now carry colour photographs of candidates, a practice introduced during the Bihar assembly elections. The latest revision, under Rule 49B of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961, focuses on enhancing clarity and accessibility for voters.
“The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the existing guidelines for the design and printing of EVM Ballot Papers to enhance their clarity and readability,” the commission said in its statement.
The commission further noted that this step adds to the 28 reforms already undertaken in the past six months to streamline election processes and improve convenience for voters.
The move is seen as part of ECI’s larger push to ensure transparency, inclusivity, and efficiency in the electoral process.
