Gurugram: Gurugram Police on Tuesday arrested car driver Kalyan Bainsla in Rajasthan hours after invoking attempted murder charges against him in connection with a high-profile road-rage collision on Golf Course Road. The arrest followed massive public outrage after dashcam footage and mobile video surfaced on social media showing a sedan deliberately ramming into a female motorcyclist over the weekend. Law enforcement authorities had initially registered a case on Monday under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 125 for endangering personal safety and 281 for rash driving before elevating the charges to Section 109 for attempt to murder.
The incident occurred early Sunday morning when the rider, identified as Delhi-based motorcyclist Sia, was travelling along Golf Course Road aboard her Aprilia sportbike alongside a group of companions. According to the rider, the driver of a white Maruti Ciaz tailgated her dangerously close, aggressively gestured at her, and demanded she pull over. When fellow riders attempted to shield her and block the aggressive vehicle, the car accelerated sharply and sideswiped the motorcycle near a turn, sending the rider crashing onto the asphalt before speeding away from the scene.
Following the collision, Bainsla defended his actions in media interviews, claiming the impact was accidental and caused by a loss of vehicular control near a U-turn. He contended that he fled the area without stopping solely out of fear of being lynched by a crowd of bikers. Defense counsel representing Bainsla further attempted to shift accountability, alleging the biker was speeding excessively and orchestrating stunts to manufacture social media publicity and followers.
The victim and her family firmly rejected the defense claims, demanding rigorous legal accountability for what they described as a targeted and intentional vehicular assault. Speaking on the aftermath, the rider questioned why the driver abandoned her on the roadway without seeking medical assistance if the collision had indeed been an unfortunate accident. With Bainsla now in police custody following cross-state tracking, investigators are moving forward with formal interrogations and legal proceedings.
