Mohali: A Mohali court has adopted a stringent stance regarding the prolonged trial in the April 2018 shooting targeting Punjabi singer and actor Parmish Verma, granting the Rupnagar Range Deputy Inspector General a final opportunity to produce prosecution witnesses. Taking serious note of repeated prosecution failures to complete witness testimonies, the court issued non-bailable warrants against four police personnel and scheduled the next hearing for September 17.
The non-bailable warrants target three assistant sub-inspectors and one sub-inspector who failed to present their official statements despite multiple earlier opportunities granted by the judiciary. Expressing acute dissatisfaction with the investigative lapses and procedural delays, the court formally communicated with DIG Rupnagar, emphasizing that the state will be granted no further leniency if key law enforcement witnesses are not brought before the bench on the upcoming date.
The high-profile case stems from an armed attack in Mohali where gangster Dilpreet Singh, known as Dilpreet Baba, and his armed associates allegedly ambushed Parmish Verma and his friend while they were travelling home from a promotional event, inflicting bullet injuries on both. While several suspects were subsequently apprehended and charged with attempted murder and arms offences, the prosecution has repeatedly sought adjournments to submit vital witness evidence, prompting the court’s latest coercive measures to expedite the trial.
