Chandigarh: The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, approved several major governance measures on Saturday aimed at modernizing administrative operations, bolstering regional healthcare systems, and preparing for the upcoming paddy procurement drive. The council sanctioned changes to the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) Group-A regulations while endorsing newly created positions within the commission, including a personal assistant role attached to the secretary’s office to increase processing efficiency. The administrative review for the Department of Information and Public Relations covering the 2025-26 period was also formally accepted.

In preparation for the Kharif Marketing Season 2026-27, the provincial leadership gave clearance to critical operational blueprints, including the draft Punjab Custom Milling Policy, the Punjab Foodgrain Transportation Policy, and the Punjab Foodgrain Labour and Cartage Policy. The regulations establish a logistical structure intended to streamline grain handling, ensure prompt transportation from market yards, and minimize disruption during peak procurement arrivals across state centres.

The cabinet directed substantial resources toward medical services by sanctioning 231 medical posts across multiple regions. The approvals include 33 healthcare positions for the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Chamkaur Sahib, along with 19 administrative and medical posts designated for the Malerkotla district health administration, including roles for a Civil Surgeon, Assistant Civil Surgeon, and District Family Welfare Officer.

Further medical reinforcements include 119 new positions sanctioned for the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Dhuri alongside its Mother and Child Health Centre. The administration also authorized the recruitment of 80 doctors and dentists to fill long-standing vacancies for medical and dental officers throughout public facilities, aiming to expand primary patient care, address clinical staffing shortages, and generate specialized public-sector employment opportunities across the state.
