New Delhi– A tragic road accident in North Delhi claimed the life of Navjot Singh, a deputy secretary in the Finance Ministry’s Department of Economic Affairs, while his wife, Sandeep Kaur, was critically injured.
The incident occurred near Metro Pillar 67 on the Dhaula Kuan–Delhi Cantt stretch after a BMW, reportedly driven by a woman, struck the couple’s motorcycle. Witnesses said the luxury car first hit the central verge before losing control and colliding with the two-wheeler.
Police officials said Singh, a resident of Hari Nagar, was returning with his wife when the accident happened. The couple was engaged in the business of producing leather horse saddles, seats, covers, and belts in addition to Singh’s government service.
Gaganpreet, who was in the BMW, sustained minor injuries and was admitted to Nulife Hospital in Mukherjee Nagar. After being discharged, she was taken into custody for questioning.
An FIR was registered earlier in the day under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 281 (rash driving endangering life), 125B (endangering life or safety), 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), and 238 (concealing evidence or providing false information).
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) inspected the damaged vehicles and the accident site. Police said emergency calls about a major traffic jam alerted them to the crash.
