Lucknow: More than 3.53 lakh people have been affected by floods across 26 districts of Uttar Pradesh, with authorities evacuating over 17,500 residents to safer locations, the state government said on Friday.
According to the office of the Relief Commissioner, 17,544 people have been evacuated, while 4,847 are currently staying in relief shelters. No loss of human life or livestock has been reported so far.
The state has set up 1,312 flood shelters and 1,634 flood outposts as rescue and relief operations continue across the affected areas.
Nearly 1,700 Boats, Over 1,000 Medical Teams Deployed
Authorities have deployed 1,697 boats and motorboats along with 1,068 medical teams to assist people in flood-hit regions.
As part of the relief effort, 72,897 food relief packets and more than 3.67 lakh lunch packets have been distributed.
Health and sanitation measures have also been stepped up, with over 5.52 lakh chlorine tablets and 1.87 lakh ORS packets supplied to affected communities.
More than 45,000 animals have been affected by the flooding. The government said over 5,000 quintals of fodder had been distributed and no livestock deaths had been reported.
Which UP Districts Are Affected By Floods?
The 26 affected districts are Amroha, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Badaun, Ballia, Barabanki, Basti, Chandauli, Farrukhabad, Ghazipur, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Hardoi, Kasganj, Kanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mirzapur, Moradabad, Pilibhit, Prayagraj, Raebareli, Rampur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shahjahanpur, Unnao and Varanasi.
Authorities continue to monitor water levels and carry out evacuations and relief work wherever required.
Mandakini River Recedes In Chitrakoot
In Chitrakoot, the Mandakini River has receded to 128 metres after reaching a peak of 135.20 metres on August 29.
Despite the fall in water level, relief operations are continuing. The government said 688 people had been evacuated, while assistance had reached 13,906 residents across 36 affected villages.
The administration has distributed 28,803 lunch packets and 2,065 relief kits. Eighteen flood shelters are operational, while 28 medical teams equipped with medicines and ambulances have been deployed.
At least 653 houses suffered partial damage in the floods. Financial assistance worth Rs 7.52 lakh has been transferred to 188 affected beneficiaries, while Rs 1.20 lakh has been provided in one case involving complete damage. Compensation in other cases is being processed.
A 30-member NDRF team and two SDRF teams comprising 27 personnel have also been deployed, while surveys are underway to assess crop losses suffered by farmers.
12 Shepherds, Over 2,000 Sheep Rescued In Ghazipur
A major rescue operation was also conducted in Ghazipur after 12 shepherds and more than 2,000 sheep became stranded on an island near Duhia Saraiya following a rise in the Ganga’s water level.
Officials said the operation lasted around six hours. A night-vision drone was used to locate the stranded group before police, administrative teams, the PAC flood company and local boatmen carried out the rescue.
All 12 shepherds and the animals were brought to safety, with no loss of life reported during the operation.
