Srinagar: An IndiGo flight arriving from Navi Mumbai came into contact with a Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) pole while being parked at Srinagar International Airport on Friday morning. All passengers and crew members on board the aircraft are safe, officials said.

The incident involved IndiGo flight 6E 225, operating from Navi Mumbai to Srinagar on September 4, 2026.

According to airport authorities, the aircraft had landed safely and was being positioned at Bay Number 06 at around 9:02 am when it came into contact with the VDGS pole during the parking process.

Passengers, Crew Safely Deplaned

Airport officials said no injuries were reported following the incident. Passengers and crew members were safely deboarded from the aircraft using manual stairs.

The airport spokesperson said the circumstances surrounding the incident would be examined by the appropriate authorities under prescribed procedures.

Officials stressed that no conclusion had been reached about what caused the aircraft to hit the pole and that the exact circumstances would be established only after the investigation is completed.

IndiGo Aircraft Grounded For Maintenance

IndiGo confirmed that flight 6E 225 came into contact with a parking stand pole after safely landing at Srinagar International Airport.

The airline said the relevant authorities were immediately informed and an investigation into the incident had been initiated.

The aircraft has been grounded for necessary maintenance and inspection and will return to service only after receiving the required clearances.

IndiGo said the safety and security of its passengers and employees remained its top priority.

Srinagar Airport Operations Remain Normal

Despite the incident, operations at Srinagar International Airport were not disrupted.

Officials said scheduled arrivals and departures continued normally following the incident.

A VDGS is used at airports to provide pilots with visual information while an aircraft approaches its designated parking position, helping align and stop the aircraft correctly at the stand.

Further details about the incident, including the extent of any damage to the aircraft or the parking equipment, are expected after the inspection and inquiry.
