KATHMANDU — Bollywood actor and humanitarian Sonu Sood arrived in Nepal on Tuesday to express solidarity with affected communities and personally oversee the distribution of essential relief supplies following catastrophic flash floods across the Himalayan nation. The floods, triggered by torrential rainfall in late August, have devastated entire settlements, killing at least 939 people and leaving nearly 4,000 others missing, according to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
Sood shared photographs and videos on social media from his ground visits, highlighting interactions with displaced families and pledging sustained humanitarian assistance. The actor confirmed that essential consignments containing blankets, non-perishable food items, and basic necessities were dispatched from India, emphasizing that his foundation aims to sustain a steady supply chain of emergency aid over the coming months to help affected residents rebuild their lives.
The humanitarian initiative drew wide support across the film industry and social media, with actors such as Manisha Koirala calling upon international agencies to bolster disaster response operations, while Sunita Ahuja urged wider public participation in relief work. Search, rescue, and rehabilitation operations led by Nepalese authorities remain underway in severely impacted districts, including Rasuwa and Nuwakot, while the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu continues to coordinate identification protocols for deceased and missing foreign nationals.
