Mumbai: A routine Monday morning commute was disrupted after a monorail train unexpectedly stalled mid-track in Mumbai, prompting an emergency rescue operation to safely evacuate 17 stranded passengers.

According to transport authorities, the incident occurred between the Antop Hill Bus Depot and GTBN Station in Wadala, around 10:15 a.m., when the monorail suddenly came to a standstill due to what has been described as a “technical issue.”

Swift Response Ensures Safety

Upon detection of the fault, the monorail control center immediately alerted emergency personnel. Rescue teams arrived on site shortly after and carried out a coordinated evacuation. All 17 passengers aboard the halted train were brought to safety without injury.

“No one was hurt, and the rescue was completed efficiently,” confirmed a senior official from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which oversees monorail operations. “The safety protocols we have in place allowed us to respond quickly.”

The monorail that came to a halt in the Wadala area of Mumbai this morning due to technical glitches continued with its onward journey after the glitches were fixed.

Cause Under Investigation

While the exact nature of the technical snag remains under examination, preliminary reports suggest an issue with the train’s propulsion or power supply system. Engineers have been deployed to conduct a detailed inspection of the affected section of track and the train unit.
