Amritsar: Passengers at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport were left frustrated and distressed after a SpiceJet flight was reportedly delayed by around 17 hours, with several travellers, including children, forced to wait amid the heat.
According to passengers, the flight was originally scheduled to depart at 8:40 am. The departure time was first changed to 11 am, but travellers were later allegedly informed at the airport counter that the flight would now be delayed by nearly 17 hours.
The extended delay triggered anger among passengers, who claimed they were not given adequate information about the reason for the disruption.
Passengers seek clarity from airline
One of the passengers alleged that SpiceJet had failed to provide clear information about the situation and that no senior or responsible airline representative was available at the airport to address their concerns.
Travellers also claimed they had not received a clear response regarding refunds, alternative flights or accommodation despite the substantial delay.
The passengers have questioned the airline’s handling of the situation and sought immediate clarity on what arrangements would be made for those unable to continue with the delayed flight.
Families forced to wait in heat
Videos from the airport showed passengers waiting for extended periods, with some families reportedly sitting outside in the heat along with their children.
The prolonged wait has added to the frustration, particularly among passengers travelling with young children. Travellers alleged that basic assistance and information were not being provided despite the length of the delay.
Passengers have demanded that the airline explain the reason for the disruption and provide necessary assistance to those affected.
DGCA rules cited by passengers
Some passengers also referred to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regulations, claiming that passengers affected by lengthy flight disruptions may be entitled to refunds or alternate travel arrangements depending on the circumstances.
They have sought clarity from SpiceJet on whether such provisions apply in the present case and urged the airline to process eligible refunds or arrange alternative tickets without further delay.
Passengers have also demanded that the airline provide necessary amenities during the extended wait.
The situation has raised questions among travellers over the airline’s communication and passenger-handling arrangements during the prolonged delay. Further details regarding the exact reason for the disruption and the airline’s response are awaited.
