Shimla: Several parts of Himachal Pradesh are likely to receive rainfall on Sunday as monsoon activity remains active over the state. The Meteorological Department has forecast showers in both the hill districts and lower areas, with isolated spells of heavy rain possible.
Kangra, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur are among the districts expected to witness rainfall. While light to moderate showers may occur across several locations, some areas could experience intense downpours. The rain may also bring some relief from the prevailing temperatures.
The wet spell is expected to continue over the coming days, with rainfall activity likely to become stronger in several districts on September 1 and 2. Residents in areas close to rivers, streams and deep ravines have been advised to remain particularly cautious during periods of heavy rain.
Landslide threat in vulnerable areas
Persistent rainfall could create problems in the state’s mountainous regions, where saturated slopes may become vulnerable to landslides and falling rocks. Road connectivity could also be affected if debris or boulders fall onto highways and local roads.
People travelling through hilly areas have been advised to remain alert and avoid unnecessary journeys during periods of intense rainfall. Motorists have also been urged to drive carefully, particularly along stretches prone to landslides and water accumulation.
Temperatures remain above normal
Despite the expected rainfall, there has been no major change in maximum temperatures across Himachal Pradesh so far. Temperatures in several parts of the state continue to remain above the normal range.
Una recorded a maximum temperature of around 35 degrees Celsius, according to weather data.
The Meteorological Department has advised residents to keep track of weather updates and follow instructions issued by local authorities. People planning journeys have also been asked to take prevailing weather and road conditions into account, particularly in areas vulnerable to landslides and disruptions.
