Chandigarh: The Punjab government has adopted a firm stance against administrative disruptions, ordering strict disciplinary action against all government staff who remained absent from work to join a state-wide mass strike on Thursday. An estimated 400,000 public sector personnel across various cadres took collective leave to participate in the day-long protest, leading to significant slowdowns in routine administrative functions.
Taking serious note of the widespread mass absenteeism, the state’s Department of Personnel issued an urgent directive to all administrative secretaries and departmental heads. The circular instructs supervisory authorities to compile and submit comprehensive lists of all absent personnel by Thursday evening, specifying that punitive measures will be initiated in strict accordance with established civil service conduct rules.
The administrative directive signals a zero-tolerance approach toward unapproved work boycotts and coordinated mass leaves by government personnel. State authorities intend to scrutinize the submitted attendance records before determining formal procedural repercussions for the non-compliant staff members.
