Kangpokpi: At least four individuals lost their lives and another person went missing following an ambush by armed militants in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Thursday. According to administrative and police officials, the assailants targeted a vehicle traversing an isolated stretch between the villages of Makui Ashang and Thabamba Naga, unleashing gunfire that resulted in immediate casualties.
The four victims, identified as members of the Liangmai Naga community, succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the attack. Security forces and local responders quickly mobilized to the site to recover the deceased, with arrangements made to transport the bodies to the Senapati district hospital for post-mortem examinations while search operations were launched for the missing occupant.
The deadly incident triggered immediate unrest in the surrounding region, prompting civil society bodies into collective protest. Following the attack, the Naga People’s Organisation enforced a complete shutdown of commercial markets, private establishments, and business operations across Senapati district headquarters town as tensions heightened in the area.
