New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday spoke to Nepal Prime Minister Balen Shah and conveyed his condolences over the loss of lives following the devastating floods in the neighbouring country.
During the conversation, PM Modi expressed solidarity with the people of Nepal and offered all possible humanitarian and relief assistance from India as the country deals with the aftermath of the disaster.
The development comes as rescue and verification efforts continue following a flash flood in Nepal’s Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa district.
PM Modi Offers India’s Assistance To Nepal
PM Modi conveyed his condolences to families who lost their loved ones in the disaster and assured Nepal of India’s support during the crisis.
India and Nepal share close geographical and people-to-people ties, and New Delhi has extended assistance to Kathmandu during major natural disasters in the past as well.
The offer of humanitarian assistance comes as Nepalese authorities and security agencies continue their response operations in flood-hit areas.
105 Indians On Preliminary Missing Travellers List
The Nepal Tourism Board earlier released a preliminary list of 384 travellers whose whereabouts were being verified, including 105 Indian nationals and 37 NRIs.
The list comprises 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepali nationals and was prepared using information obtained from 10 tourism and travel agencies.
Authorities have stressed that the list remains preliminary and that inclusion does not by itself confirm that a person is missing. Officials are working with travel agencies, guides, local administrations and security agencies to establish the whereabouts of those listed.
The situation remains fluid, with further updates expected as rescue and verification operations progress.
