Amritsar: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled three interconnected cross-border illegal weapons and narcotics trafficking networks, arresting five operatives during a coordinated intelligence-led operation. Law enforcement officials seized nine illegal pistols and over 6.3 kilograms of heroin during the crackdown, dealing a major blow to organized smuggling syndicates operating in the border region.
Preliminary interrogations revealed that the apprehended individuals were operating in direct contact with foreign-based handlers. Following instructions from abroad, the operatives received consignments of illicit firearms and commercial-quantity narcotics to distribute to local criminal networks and street-level peddlers across Punjab.
Authorities have registered three separate First Information Reports at the Cantonment and Chheharta police stations to probe the full extent of the syndicate. Investigators are actively questioning the suspects to trace both forward supply chains and backward logistical routes, including identifying local recipients and financial conduits linked to the overseas handlers. Punjab Police reiterated their commitment to sustaining zero-tolerance operations against cross-border smuggling corridors to dismantle organized criminal supply chains throughout the state.
