Chandigarh: Rainy weather is set to persist across Punjab on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert for Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, and Rupnagar due to expected heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Residents in these northern and sub-mountainous districts have been advised to monitor local weather developments closely, though widespread downpours across the entire state remain unlikely.

According to meteorological officials, Saturday’s precipitation will primarily concentrate in the northern belt, with rain anticipated at 50 to 75 percent of locations across Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, and Rupnagar. Central and eastern areas, including Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Ludhiana, and Patiala, are expected to see showers across 25 to 50 percent of locations, while the southern Malwa region will likely experience only isolated, scattered drizzle.

Monsoon activity is projected to gradually subside starting Sunday, August 23, with no severe weather warnings issued for any district. While moderate showers may still cover 50 to 75 percent of areas in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, and Rupnagar, districts such as Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Sangrur will see a decrease in coverage to between 25 and 50 percent, alongside sparse precipitation in southern Malwa.

A significant reduction in rainfall is forecasted for Monday, August 24, confining isolated showers mainly to Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, and Mohali, while Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Patiala transition to largely dry conditions. By Tuesday, August 25, clear weather is expected to prevail across the majority of Punjab, with only sporadic, light drizzles possible in select northern and eastern pockets.
