Mohali: A section of an under-construction hospital building collapsed in Mohali’s Aerocity area, leaving two workers dead and another injured. The incident took place at Sector 82, where construction work was underway.
The collapse brought rescue teams to the site as concerns emerged that workers could still be trapped beneath the fallen structure. Police and local residents joined the effort to search through the debris and assist those affected.
A senior police officer said two people had been pulled out from the rubble. Although workers at the site indicated that no one else might be trapped, the rescue operation continued as a precaution to ensure that the debris was thoroughly checked.
Those rescued with injuries were taken to a hospital for treatment. Police teams, assisted by members of the public, were involved in shifting the injured workers to safety.
DSP Harsimran Singh Bal said the priority remained completing the rescue operation and determining the number of casualties. He said police personnel were working alongside members of the public at the site.
The ownership of the under-construction property has not yet been conclusively established. Police indicated that the building may belong to a person identified as Wadhwa, but said the matter was still being investigated.
Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances that led to the structural collapse and determine whether any safety or construction-related lapses contributed to the incident. Further details are likely to emerge after the rescue operation and investigation progress.
