Dubai: In a surprising turn of events, cricket’s most celebrated rivalry, India vs Pakistan, may not see packed stands when the two nations clash in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 fixture this Sunday. Traditionally a sell-out event, the buzz surrounding this match appears muted, with thousands of high-tier tickets still unsold just days before the game.
Premium seating options such as VIP Suites East are still listed at a staggering Rs 2.5 lakh per pair, offering perks like lounge access, gourmet catering, private parking, and exclusive entry points. Other luxury packages — including Royal Box and Sky Box — are priced at Rs 2.3 lakh and Rs 1.6 lakh, respectively. Even the Platinum category tickets command close to Rs 76,000, while the most economical seats hover around Rs 10,000 for two.
Aakash Chopra Weighs In: ‘A Concerning Shift’
Former India opener and cricket analyst Aakash Chopra addressed the unusually low turnout in a recent video, speculating on the reasons behind the waning enthusiasm.
“It’s rare to see India play and the stands not be full. But that’s exactly what’s happening. During the match against the UAE, large sections were empty. Now, even the marquee clash against Pakistan hasn’t sparked the usual ticket rush — especially for high-priced seats,” said Chopra.
He added that multiple factors could be at play, including:

Exorbitant ticket prices, particularly in venues like the UAE, where audiences may only splurge for the final-stage matches.

“Whatever the reason — or combination of reasons — the fact is the stadiums are not filling up like they used to. That is worrying,” Chopra noted.
India vs Pakistan: Both Teams in Strong Form
Despite the lukewarm ticket sales, both teams are in solid form. India cruised to a nine-wicket victory over the UAE, while Pakistan thrashed Oman by 93 runs. Expectations for a high-quality contest remain intact.
Speaking to Telecom Asia Sport, legendary pacer Wasim Akram offered his perspective on the match-up.
“India looks stronger on paper, no doubt. But Pakistan is coming in with momentum after winning the tri-series. It should be a tightly contested game,” Akram said.

Akram also commented on the changes within Pakistan’s setup, including the appointment of Salman Agha as captain and Mike Hesson as head coach.
