New Delhi: AAP leaders have come out in support of former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain following his arrest in an alleged corruption case linked to the Delhi Jal Board, with party leaders questioning the timing of the action and alleging that the case is politically motivated.
AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal criticised the arrest, claiming that Jain had previously faced what he described as a false case and alleging that the latest action was another attempt to target the party. Kejriwal said the earlier period of incarceration had caused Jain significant mental distress and questioned who would be accountable for the consequences if the latest allegations were eventually disproved.
“The previous case was fake and this case will also be proved fake,” Kejriwal said, while accusing the BJP of using investigative agencies to target political opponents. He further alleged that the action reflected what he called the “dictatorship” of the ruling party.

Kejriwal also said the Aam Aadmi Party and its supporters would continue to stand with Jain, while launching a broader political attack on the BJP-led government at the Centre.
AAP leader Manish Sisodia linked Jain’s arrest to the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, pointing out that Jain is associated with the party’s organisational work in the state as its co-in-charge. Sisodia alleged that Jain had earlier spent around two-and-a-half years in jail in what he called a fabricated case and claimed that the latest arrest represented a continuation of the same pattern.

Sisodia also accused the BJP of returning to what he described as its old strategy of using central investigative agencies during politically sensitive periods.
AAP Punjab leader Anurag Dhanda questioned the basis of the allegations against Jain, particularly the reference to a Delhi Jal Board tender. He argued that Jain was in jail during the period connected to the tender and questioned how he could have been responsible for decisions taken at the time.
Dhanda also alleged that Jain’s role in Punjab’s upcoming election campaign was the actual reason behind the arrest, claiming that the BJP was concerned about the AAP’s electoral prospects in the state.
The allegations by AAP leaders come as the arrest of Jain adds another political flashpoint between the ruling BJP and the opposition party. While the AAP has rejected the corruption allegations and described the case as politically motivated, the legal proceedings will determine the substance of the charges against Jain.
The latest episode has also brought renewed attention to the AAP’s long-running confrontation with central investigative agencies, with the party repeatedly alleging that its leaders have been targeted for political reasons. BJP leaders and investigating agencies, however, have maintained their own position on cases involving AAP leaders.
With Punjab’s Assembly election approaching, Jain’s arrest is likely to become a political issue for the AAP, particularly given his organisational role in the state. The party has already begun framing the development as an attempt to put pressure on its leadership ahead of the electoral contest.
