Chandigarh: With scattered cloud cover and the possibility of light rainfall in some districts today, Punjab is slowly transitioning toward normalcy after weeks of flood-related challenges. A noticeable drop in temperatures, combined with receding water levels, has brought much-needed relief across the state.
According to the latest weather advisory, light showers may occur in select areas, while most parts of Punjab are expected to remain dry. Authorities continue to closely monitor conditions, especially in flood-prone zones and along riverbanks, where emergency work remains ongoing.
Flood Impact Eases Across the State
In districts previously affected by flooding, the situation has improved significantly over the past week. The steady decline in water levels has allowed many displaced residents to begin returning home. In agricultural regions, however, approximately 3 to 4 feet of silt and sand have accumulated over large stretches of farmland, posing new challenges for farmers.
Repair work on damaged embankments and weak points along dams has accelerated in recent days. State officials confirm that multiple teams are working around the clock to strengthen flood defenses and prevent future breaches.
The reduction in rainfall over the Himalayas has also contributed to the stabilization of river levels feeding into Punjab. Although some light precipitation is expected in neighboring Himachal Pradesh and Jammu today, no immediate threat is forecast for Punjab.
Cooler Conditions Settle In
A shift in the weather pattern has brought down daytime and nighttime temperatures across several regions. Patiala recorded the highest temperature in the state at 33.7°C, while Bathinda experienced the lowest at 23.5°C.

Amritsar: No rain is expected today. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 25.2°C and has received a total of 651.9 mm of rainfall so far this season.

Jalandhar: With no rain forecasted, temperatures may rise to 32°C. The district has logged 902.7 mm of seasonal rainfall.

Ludhiana: No rain is on the radar. The city’s temperature stands at 25.5°C, with cumulative rainfall reaching 798.2 mm.
State on Alert, But Cautiously Optimistic
Disaster response teams remain on standby in case weather conditions shift unexpectedly, especially with rain predicted in the hills. Authorities say they are taking no chances, despite signs of improvement.
Meanwhile, the state government has initiated damage assessment exercises in border areas and flood-impacted zones. Compensation and rehabilitation measures are expected to be rolled out once final reports are submitted.
With the monsoon gradually retreating, Punjab appears to be moving toward recovery, though the path to full restoration—especially in agricultural and rural regions—may take time.
