New Delhi: The Union government has sanctioned more than Rs 84 crore to bolster tourism infrastructure across remote and strategically significant destinations in Himachal Pradesh, with a major focus on Kaza, Rakcham, and Chintpurni. The financial allocations, presented in the Parliament of India during the recently concluded Monsoon Session, are aimed at modernizing regional connectivity and enhancing facilities for visitors in high-altitude and pilgrimage hubs.
As part of the initiative, Rs 56.26 crore has been earmarked for the redevelopment of the renowned Maa Chintpurni Devi Temple complex in Una district. In addition, Rs 24.82 crore has been approved for tourism development projects in Kaza, the administrative headquarters of the remote Spiti Valley, alongside targeted infrastructure support for Rakcham in the Sangla Valley of Kinnaur. Situated near the Indo-Tibet Line of Actual Control near Pulam Sumda, Rakcham and Kaza hold considerable geostrategic significance, making infrastructure enhancement in these border areas a central focus.
Beyond these allocations, the central government has previously earmarked Rs 68.34 crore for the Himalayan Circuit project. This expansive circuit connects several key tourist destinations across the state, including Kiarighat, Shimla, Hatkoti, Manali, Kangra, Dharamshala, Bir, Palampur, and Chamba.
While primary destination development remains the responsibility of state governments and union territory administrations, the Ministry of Tourism provides central financial assistance under major schemes such as Swadesh Darshan, Swadesh Darshan 2.0, Challenge Based Destination Development, and PRASHAD. Release of these funds remains subject to scheme guidelines, availability of budget allocations, and the submission of detailed project reports by the state government.
