New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has submitted a fresh resignation letter to party president Nitin Nabin, reiterating his decision to quit the primary membership and step down from all organizational responsibilities. Poonawalla had initially tendered his resignation on July 30, but after the party leadership asked him to reconsider, he reaffirmed his exit on Monday, urging the party to formally accept his departure.
A prominent Pasmanda Muslim face within the ruling party, Poonawalla stated that his resolve to step down had been reinforced by recent actions of certain individuals, a matter he noted had already been conveyed in detail to the party’s central leadership. Citing pressing personal and financial circumstances, he indicated that he plans to transition to the corporate and private sectors.
Reflecting on his tenure within the party, Poonawalla expressed deep gratitude to the leadership for providing him with a national platform, remarking that the trajectory of a young, non-dynast Pasmanda Muslim leader would not have been possible in any other political organization. He emphasized that while he is relinquishing his official role as national spokesperson, his commitment to national development missions under Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains steadfast.
Clarifying that his departure is administrative rather than ideological, Poonawalla stressed that he is stepping away from the organizational machinery while continuing to endorse the broader ideological vision and leadership of the Prime Minister.
