Lok Sabha Disallows Questions on Youth Protests and NEET-UG, CJP Criticizes Decision

New Delhi: Three sets of parliamentary questions regarding recent youth-led demonstrations and the NEET-UG 2026 examination were disallowed during the recent Monsoon Session of Parliament due to admissibility criteria, Cockroach Janta Party chief spokesperson Saurav Das stated on Sunday. The questions, submitted under notice reference numbers 101799 and 101801 by DMK Member of Parliament Matheswaran V.S., sought formal responses from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Education regarding examination management and the handling of demonstrations.

The rejected inquiries requested official information regarding the refund of examination application fees, institutional engagement with student groups, systemic education reforms, paper leak safeguards, and the provision of basic sanitation and drinking water amenities to demonstrators in New Delhi. Parliamentary authorities disallowed the questions under Rule 41(2) of the Lok Sabha Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business, citing specific clauses that restrict questions containing arguments or defamatory statements, issues sub judice before a court of law, matters under parliamentary committee review, and queries seeking abstract opinions or imprecise answers.

Criticizing the move, Das argued that Question Hour represents a foundational pillar of parliamentary oversight and questioned how the executive branch could be held accountable if elected representatives are restricted from raising public grievances on the floor of the House. The MP representing Namakkal also confirmed receiving notice of the disallowance through the official legislative members’ portal.

The development follows weeks of student-led agitations in the national capital concerning national competitive examinations, paper security, and student welfare reforms. The protest movement, which included sit-ins at Jantar Mantar and wider demonstrations across Delhi, had led to frequent disruptions in both legislative Houses as opposition members demanded statements regarding law enforcement responses and administrative accountability.
