New Jersey: An Indian-origin man in New Jersey has admitted in federal court to knowingly accessing child sexual abuse material involving a prepubescent child, according to the US Department of Justice.
The accused, Abhishek Vijaykumar, a resident of Hasbrouck Heights, entered a guilty plea in federal court in New Jersey in connection with the offence.
Investigation uncovered more than 200 images
According to the Justice Department, Vijaykumar knowingly accessed illegal material in March 2024.
Investigators later examined his electronic devices as part of the case and recovered more than 200 images containing child sexual exploitation material.
Among the material identified by investigators was an image depicting the sexual abuse of a three-year-old child by an adult male, the department said.
Could face up to 20 years in prison
Vijaykumar now faces a potential maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison following his guilty plea.
The case remains subject to sentencing, which will determine the punishment imposed by the federal court.
The investigation highlights the continued efforts of US federal authorities to identify and prosecute individuals who access or possess child sexual abuse material, particularly through electronic devices and online platforms.
