Sirmaur: Two members of a family were killed and two young children suffered serious injuries after a residential house collapsed in the Rajgarh area of Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district on Wednesday, officials said.
The incident took place near Didag in Rajgarh subdivision when the house belonging to Bhim Singh of Chhichhadiya village suddenly gave way. Four people were inside the structure at the time of the collapse and were later pulled out with the help of local residents.
The deceased have been identified as 60-year-old Nirmala, wife of Bhim Singh, and 32-year-old Pooja, his daughter.
Among those rescued were two two-year-old girls, identified as Kumari Heera, Pooja’s daughter, and Abhiyana, daughter of Arun, Bhim Singh’s son. Both children sustained serious injuries and were shifted to Civil Hospital, Rajgarh, where they are receiving treatment.
No other major damage reported
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), in its situation report, said there were no reports of anyone missing or stranded following the collapse. No cattle were reported to have been killed or injured either.
Officials also said the incident did not cause any reported damage to public infrastructure, including roads, electricity facilities or other government property.
The Village Revenue Officer of Didag informed the administration about the incident. Authorities have initiated the necessary procedures, while further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse is underway.
Monsoon continues to wreak havoc across Himachal
The tragedy comes as Himachal Pradesh continues to deal with the impact of a particularly disruptive monsoon season. Official figures indicate that more than 70 people have died in rain-related incidents across the state, while hundreds of roads remain affected.
According to the latest State Emergency Operation Centre data covering June 30 to August 11, 204 roads are currently blocked, including two national highways — NH-154 and NH-21. Mandi has emerged as the worst-affected district, with 80 roads shut due to weather-related disruptions.
The cumulative damage to public property has crossed ₹910 crore, with heavy rain, landslides, cloudbursts and other monsoon-related incidents affecting road networks, electricity infrastructure, water supply and private property across the hill state.
With rainfall continuing in several parts of Himachal Pradesh, authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, particularly in areas vulnerable to landslides and structural damage.
