New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested a 45-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 55-year-old man in Sangam Vihar, alleging that the killing was the outcome of a pre-planned conspiracy arising from domestic and financial disputes.
The accused have been identified as Manju, wife of the deceased, and her alleged associate Chaman. Police have also taken action against another man, identified as 28-year-old Kishan, for allegedly providing shelter to the accused.
The case came to light after Munna Lal was found seriously injured near Ratiya Marg on August 10. He was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where doctors later declared him dead.
CCTV footage helps investigators piece together events
Following the incident, police teams examined CCTV recordings from the area along with technical evidence and findings collected during the scene-of-crime investigation. The evidence, police said, helped investigators trace the sequence of events and uncover the alleged conspiracy behind the attack.
The investigation subsequently led police to Manju and Chaman, who were arrested in connection with the case.
According to investigators, the circumstances surrounding the murder pointed towards a planned attack rather than a spontaneous incident.
Domestic dispute, financial issues under probe
Police have attributed the alleged motive to ongoing domestic disagreements and financial issues involving the deceased and the accused. Investigators are examining the circumstances that allegedly led to the escalation of the dispute and the subsequent attack.
Kishan, meanwhile, was bound down after being accused of harbouring the other accused.
Police said the investigation is still underway and further details are likely to emerge as the evidence is examined and the roles of all those involved are established.
The arrests mark a breakthrough in the Sangam Vihar murder investigation, with Delhi Police continuing to investigate the alleged conspiracy and the circumstances leading to Munna Lal’s death.
