Uttarkashi: An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale jolted several parts of the Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand during the early hours of Monday morning, causing widespread panic among residents. According to an official report released by the District Emergency Operation Centre in Uttarkashi, the seismic event was recorded at 1:21 AM. The epicentre of the quake was identified at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres near the Rajgarhi area within Barkot tehsil.
The late-night tremors were felt across multiple locations in the Yamuna valley, including the key towns of Uttarkashi, Barkot, Purola, Mori, Chinyalisaur, and Dunda. The sudden shaking prompted frightened residents to run out of their homes and seek safety in open areas. Local administrative teams immediately established contact with tehsildars, police outposts, revenue sub-inspectors, and village heads to assess the ground situation. Authorities confirmed that no loss of life, casualties, or major structural damage was reported across the district following the tremors.
